Lead Yourself First

I recently made some time to attend a webinar from one of my mentors, Michael Hyatt, called “5 Keys to Building a Business that Lasts in Any Economy.” (Link to: ). I highly recommend attending yourself.

He said that in times of crisis, the 3 P’s are common:

  • Paralysis
  • Panic
  • Pivot

Sound familiar?

It’s so important to be aware of your mental and emotional states because your team will replicate your words and actionsYou are contagious to the people you lead. The Law of Replication says that whoever we are and what ever we do will infect the people around us.

Which is why the #1 Key to Building a Business that Lasts in any Economy is:
Lead Yourself First

If you are clear and sharp, your teammates will been clear and sharp. If you are confident and focused your teammates will be confident and focused.

On the flipside, if you are confused and fearful, your team will be confused and fearful. If you are lethargic and unfocused, your team will be lethargic and unfocused.

Here are 3 Self Care Practices to put into practice to help you Lead Yourself First:

  1. Celebrate your wins. Before you go to sleep each night, celebrate the three biggest wins during your day.
  2. Get plenty of sleep. When you are tired, you are not your best self. Determine when you will go to bed to ensure you get 7-8 hours of sleep a night.
  3. Create and observe a morning ritual. Make sure your morning ritual is thoughtful, intentional, and designed to set your day up for success!

I’d like to add this tip from my mentors at GiANT: use the 5 Gears to intentionally plan your days and weeks to bring Tempo, Balance and Focus into your weekly rhythm.

It all start with you. Take a look in the mirror and ask yourself what needs to be tweaked. We’ll dive into Key #2 next week!

Until then,
