Connect to Your Vision

As we continue to study the by one of my mentors Michael Hyatt, we learn that Key #3 is:
Stay Connected to Your Vision

Remember The Stockdale Principle? It states that you need equal amounts of Honesty and Faith to succeed in any endeavor. We talked about being honest with our financial reality. The second half of the principle requires faith. You must never lose faith that you will prevail in the endFaith is half the equation for survival!

“No one ever drifted to a destination they have chosen.” —Michael Hyatt

Faith requires vision. You must be able to envision your destination and then design the future that you desire.

Most of us have never been taught how to do the vision thing. It’s not taught in business schools and rarely passed on by mentors. You don’t have to be clever. Simply stand in the future and describe a better, more compelling reality.

Here’s a quick down-and-dirty version of how to write out a VISION SCRIPT:

  1. Write it as a document 3-5 pages in length
  2. Outline a clear, inspiring, practical, and attractive picture of your organization’s future
  3. Describe reality as you see it, 3-5 years from now. Write in the present tense, as though it’s already happened.

We’ll look at Key #4 next week!
Until then,
